On a Term with the Men’s Seniors…

Last night, at a wonderful dinner, the mens senior squad very generously presented me with a fine bottle of single malt along with their thanks. In truth it is I that should be thanking them!

This term has seen a calamitous run of bad fortune, including illness, food poisoning, and multiple deaths to the launch. It would have been very easy and quite understandable for spirits to have dropped and commitment to have waned. This was far from the case and instead a strong core of oarsmen faced up to the challenges with grim determination and attacked every session I threw at them with a hunger I have rarely seen, and all with a cheery smile on their collective faces. This dedication showed at IWL where an understrength (induced by Dans culinary skills) SPC crew raced hard and well and scalped several first division college crews, including Catz. With a result like this under our belts, a shiny new launch delivered to Radley just this morning and reinforcements in the shape of any of this terms novices who fancy challenging for a seat in the 1st VIII, St Peters College Boat Club men are poised to launch into our torpids campaign with high hopes and expectations.

My thanks to all of the mens squad for your hard work, grit and never ending cheerfulness, and to the boat club as a whole for making my fiancee and I so welcome at the dinner last night.
